HJF Receives NEA Grant for Charlie Haden Tribute

Healdsburg Jazz Festival is recommended for a $20,000 grant to support a tribute to NEA Jazz Master Charlie Haden. Tribute dates are June 1 and 2 and will be part of the larger 10-day festival, May 31 – June 9, 2013. More than 20 performers representing various phases of the bassist-composer-bandleader’s career are slated to participate in this two-day celebration of his music culminating in a concert by the 12-piece Liberation Music Orchestra.

Summer’s coming to an end – with a heat wave, of course, after a cooler-than-usual year. It’s been an unusual season in a number of ways, especially at the Healdsburg Jazz Festival. Normally, this is a quiet time of year for us, before the planning for the education programs and the annual summer Healdsburg Jazz Festival really gets going. But this is not a normal year. When people ask, How
