Did you attend our first San Francisco event on Thursday, Nov. 11, benefiting the Healdsburg Jazz Festival?  It started at 5:30 and continuing until after 8pm at Pier 23 on the Embarcadero. The “cocktail hour” fundraiser featured the Peter Barshay Trio and special guests – including Jaz Sawyer on drums, David Ulof on piano, Wayne Wallace on trombone, Erik Jakobsen on trumpet, Matt Eakle on flute, and saxophones from Madaline Duran, Noel Jewkes, and John Handy — all of whom are in this accompanying slide show.

Other musicians who showed up included Pete Yellin, Dayna Stephens, Mike Olmos, Danny Grewen, Gilbert Fix and Kai Devitt-Lee. Eddie Duran was also in the crowd, as were a number of other jazz luminaries and fans. (Were you? Leave a comment and tell us what you thought!)

pier-23-logoWineries for the event included Chance Creek, an organic winery in Redwood Valley (Mendocino County), and Cline Cellars (Sonoma-Carneros). Appetizers were provided by Pier 23 Cafe, and of course the music came from some of the best jazz musicians living in the Bay Area.

Of course it goes to a good cause – saving the Healdsburg Jazz Festival for 2011 and beyond.
